After changing ownership a few years ago and then rebuilding after a fire destroyed their building, Pioneer Family Restaurant still carries on a long-standing tradition of providing a full plate of country cooking and a great community gathering place. The menu features charbroiled steaks, seafood, and sandwiches, but almost everybody goes to the 80-item buffet bar for an unlimited selection. My old friend Johnny Bailey lives nearby, and he and his wife go several times a week. “Why so often?” I asked him. “Well, I guess it’s because we’re gluttons,” he said before he could think. “No, don’t [say that]. My wife will kill me.” I hope she doesn’t, but lots of people say the buffet at the Pioneer is worth dying for.
