The Blue Mist serves a full menu of breakfast items, steaks, sandwiches, seafood, fresh vegetables, and more. But the main attraction is its barbecue. Back in 1948, the Cox family began serving pit-cooked barbecue. Current owners, Jeff Clifton and his wife Robin, bought the Blue Mist in the mid-1990s. Today, they prepare about 1,500 pounds of hams and shoulders each week, pit-cooked. The process takes about 18 hours each day, but the result is well worth waiting for. Some people say the way to identify places that have the best barbecue is to see how “human” the pig figure on the establishment logo looks. The more human — that is, dressed up and engaging in human activities — the better the barbecue. If this is the true guide, then Blue Mist’s barbecue must be tops. Their pig is standing up, dressed in a tux and tails — ready to go to the debutante ball.
